Student Recognition

 

Weekly

  • Soaring Falcons S.O.A.R. Cards are given by ALL staff to students who are “caught”

         “ S.O.A.R. ing” Staying Safe, Owning your own Actions, Acting Responsibly, Respecting

            Everyone and Everything.

  • Students are able to use their SOAR cards as credits to use for the SOAR Store where they can buy different items.  (Every two weeks at lunch)
  • The principal announces the class who has highest percentage of students wearing Fanning shirts (or a shirt displaying school colors) on School Spirit Fridays and delivers the Spirit Wear trophy to that class for the week.

 

Monthly

  • Popsicles with the Principal – Multiple students who’s SOAR cards gets randomly picked will enjoy popsicles with the principal.  
  • At our Flag Ceremony, teachers recognize 1-2 students in each class who exemplify the Character Trait we focused on for that month.  These are presented as the “SOARing Stars of the Month.” Students who receive this award will also be invited to a  sundae party that month with the principal.

 

Trimesterly

  • At the end of each trimester, students in grades 4-6 are recognized for academic performance (Honor Roll and Honorable Mention) and responsibility (Citizenship). We hold these awards ceremonies in the Media Center by grade level, and we send home notices to let parents know to come to the ceremony.
 

Annually

* As the culmination of their academic careers at Fanning, on the last day of school 6th grade students attend an award ceremony where top 6th graders are presented with the national “Presidential Award.”

 

 

Progressive Discipline Procedure

 

At Fanning, we have positive behavior expectations that we teach students.  School and classroom rules are intended to promote an atmosphere that is conducive to learning as well as to ensure the physical and emotional safety of every child on our campus.

 

Students who do not comply with classroom rules will be disciplined for most infractions in the following manner:

  • Minor​ ​Incident​ ​Reports​ ​are given to students as a notification that the student has violated a school rule and consequences will be determined according to the rule that was violated.  Students who choose to disobey the rules may lose part of the recess, serve recess detention and/or be referred to the principal.Parent signature may be required
  • Major​ ​Incident​ ​Reports​ are a discipline measure used by teachers and administrators when inappropriate behavior is of a serious nature. Parents will be notified by the principal if their student is issued a Major Incident Report.
 

                                          

*These are some examples of school violations.

Students whose behavior is in violation of Education Code 48900 as described in the following text may be suspended from school and/or recommended for expulsion.

 

  1. (1) Caused, attempted to cause, or threatened to cause physical injury to another person; or

(2) Willfully used force or violence upon the person of another, except in self-defense.

  1. Possessed, sold, or otherwise furnished any firearm, knife, explosive, or other dangerous object,  unless, in the case of possession of any object of this type, the pupil had obtained written permission to possess the item from a certificated school employee, which is concurred in by the principal or the designee of the principal.
  2. Unlawfully possessed, used, sold, or otherwise furnished or been under the influence of, any controlled substance.
  3. Unlawfully offered, arranged, or negotiated to sell any controlled substance.
  4. Committed or attempted to commit robbery or extortion.
  5. Caused or attempted to cause damage to school property or private property.
  6. Stolen or attempted to steal school property or private property.
  7. Possessed or used tobacco, or any products containing tobacco or nicotine products.
  8. Committed an obscene act or engaged in habitual profanity or vulgarity.
  9. Unlawfully possessed or unlawfully offered, arranged, or negotiated to sell any drug paraphernalia.
  10. Disrupted school activities or otherwise willfully defied the valid authority of supervisors, teachers, administrators, school officials, or other school personnel engaged in the performance of their duties.
  11. Knowingly received stolen school property or private property.
  12. Possessed an imitation firearm.  A replica that is substantially similar to an existing firearm as to lead a reasonable person to conclude that the replica is a firearm.
  13. Committed or attempted to commit a sexual assault as defined in the Penal Code.
  14. Harassed, threatened, or intimidated a pupil who is a complaining witness or a witness in a school disciplinary proceeding for the purpose of either preventing that pupil from being a witness or retaliating against that pupil for being a witness, or both.

FANNING DRESS CODE

Student dress should indicate respect for the educational environment and should be suitable for an active schedule. If a student comes to school and because of his/her dress, hair, or makeup is a distraction to others, parents will be notified to bring a change of clothing or the student will be removed from class.

Several examples of inappropriate attire include:
  • Midriff baring, strapless, or backless tops
  • Spaghetti straps are discouraged, tank tops should have "lasagna straps"
  • Short shorts and overly baggy pants or shirts
  • Open-toed or backless shoes, like flip flops
  • Hats are not allowed inside buildings
  • No displays of obscenity, drugs, alcohol, sex, and/or violence are permitted on clothing, jewelry or other apparel.
  • Students’ hair must be a naturally occurring hair color and the style should not be disruptive and make-up or cosmetics are not suitable.
The Fanning staff wants all students to have a safe and wholesome environment in which they can learn and grow. Variances in the student dress code only include whole school sponsored spirit days and or activities, per the principal’s discretion.
